What is P-iris Lens?

The word p-iris can be described as precise iris control, precise aperture control. The camera has software that supports this iris system. This software enables the iris control motor to be precisely adjusted according to the depth of field information it receives from the camera.

When a shot is taken using the entire lens surface, ie when the aperture is fully open, the light image sensor reaches the CCD or CMOS at the highest level. But in this case the depth of field becomes shallow. This means that the area where the camera can show clearly narrows.

As a solution, if a sharpness is made by using the center of the lens, not the whole surface, the unwanted optical effects are avoided and the appropriate depth of field is provided. The clearly visible area starting at a certain distance continues towards infinity. But this situation brings with it another problem. Since the edges are closed and the light passes through the middle of the lens, the amount of light penetrating decreases and blurring occurs.

Dept of Field

In the case of DC iris or Video iris lenses, the movement of the iris control motor according to the amount of incoming light causes the lens to reach more or less aperture. However, by adjusting the current sharpness, light and depth of field information from the camera, it is possible to correct the iris not only with respect to light, but also with depth of field.

Samsung WiseNetIII chipset box cameras (SNB-6004 and SNB-7004) support the p-iris function and p-iris lenses.

In the following video, you can compare the images taken with P-iris and DC iris Lens.
